Gestreifte DNA

Sieht hübsch aus, oder? Streifen haben mich schon immer fasziniert. Dies könnte glatt einer meiner nächsten Quilts werden.
Fast noch spannender ist jedoch die Erklärung, was es ist: Die DNA dieser Webseite. Seit wann haben Webseiten DNA - nun ja, darüber lässt sich streiten. Aber ein findiger Programmierer hat ein Spielzeug entwickelt, mit dem man die DNA jeder Webseite darstellen kann.

Pretty, don't you think? I always thought strips are intriguing. This could definitely become my next quilt.
Even more exciting though is the explanation of what it is: this websites DNA code. Since when do websites have a DNA – well, that's open to dispute. But a resourceful programmer has develloped a toy, with which you can show the DNA of any webpage.

Installation in den Kirchenfenstern der Aegidienkirche, Hannover

In dem Moment, als ich an dem grauen Novembernachmittag an der Aegidienkirche in Hannover vorbeifuhr, war mir klar: das ist mein Farbklecks. Und vermutlich sogar der schönste für Quilter. Denn das müssen doch Stoffe sein, die dort hängen...

(Alles, was Richtung Kirche oder Richtung Quilt geht, hätte ich als richtige Antwort akzeptiert - nun Mary, Du hast auf jeden Fall für heute Glück gehabt!)

The moment I drove by the Aegidienchurch in Hannover that sad and grey Novemberafternoon I instantly knew that THIS was my Color Splash. And for Quilters it is probably the prettiest. That's fabric hanging there, isn't it?

(I would have accepted anything with the idea of church, window or quilt as a right answer today - lucky you Mary!)

 

Was ist das nun, eine Quiltausstellung?
Nein, es ist ein Werk von Inge-Rose Lippok, "Ein-Leuchtungen", eine farbige Installation in acht Fenstern im Mahnmal St. Aegidien" in Hannover, die anscheinend seit 2004 schon dort ausgestellt ist. Tja, ich war recht lange nicht mehr in Hannover.

Die Aegidienkirche in der Altstadt Hannovers wurde wie auch 85 Prozent der restlichen Stadt im 2. Weltkrieg zerstört. Dieses Gebäude ist als Mahnmal praktisch unverändert an Ort und Stelle belassen worden.

So what is it, a quilt exhibition?

No, it is a piece of art by Inge-Rose Lippok, "Ein-Leuchtungen" (a play on the two German meanings of shine-in and make sense). It is a "colored installation in eight windows of the memorial St. Aegidien in Hannover, which obviously has been in place since 2004.

Yep, it was a while since I have last been to Hannover.

The Aegidienchurch in Hannovers Old Town was, as were 85 percent of the rest of the town, destroyed and burned down during WW II. The building has been left in its place almost unchanged to serve as a memorial.

Und leider muss ich zugeben, dass es weder Quilts sind, noch überhaupt aus Stoff gemacht sind. Es schien eine Art Acrylglas zu sein, deren einzelne Schreiben miteinander verklebt und dann bemalt waren.

And, unfortunately, I have to admit, that these are neither quilts nor is it fabric at all. It seemed to be some kind of acrylic glas, glued together and colored with semi-transparent colors.

Dennoch es ist eine tolle Idee, und die Installation gab der Kirche eine ganz besondere Atmosphäre.

Anyway: it is a nice idea and the church looked very special with it.
